Legazpi City – As one of the activities of the Employee Engagement Committees (EECs) Non-Supervisory Levels of Filminera Resources Corporation (FRC) and Philippine Gold Processing and Refining Corporation (PhilGold), they conducted a team enhancement activity for its members on 18 July 2017 at the mine site, Aroroy, Masbate.
The purpose of the activity is to sustain the harmonious working relationship in the two corporations especially the rank and file employees. The activity was facilitated by the Human Resource Department.
In a statement from HR Superintendent Leah Bonilla she emphasized the need for the management and the workers to have an open communication. “This activity is an effective way to loosen the thread of misunderstanding between top officials and the rank-and-file employees and pave the way for a harmonious relationship between and among us.”
“The EEC is the corporations’ Labor and Management Cooperation (LMC) program. Primarily, the reason for establishing the EEC is for employees and management to have a venue for exchanging ideas and opinions, discuss matters of mutual concern and information about the companies’ plans and status reports. One of the objectives of the EEC is to nurture a culture of trust and open discussion between employees and management in order to promote a safe and informed work environment and develop mutual trust in the process. It aims also to create a harmonious working relationship to increase employee satisfaction and productivity,” continued Supt. Bonilla.
At the invitation from the corporations, the Regional Branch of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board conducted a seminar-workshop on Effective Communication and Consensus Decision Making Process as part of the team enhancement program that was scheduled in the morning of the whole day activity.
The RCMB provided insights on productivity programs and practical knowledge and skills to enhance the EEC/LMC program of FRC and PGPRC to make it more responsive and cooperative to accomplish their tasks.
During the workshop facilitated by Regional Branch Director Reynaldo Foncardas, the EEC members were asked to design programs/projects/activities including allocation of budget within the set timeframe based on the EEC structure.
“The activity enabled the participants to exercise their communication skills in explaining the details of the project and learned to reach consensus where all members are willing to accept a decision or alternative as the best solution for the group at that time,” reacted Senior HR Officer Clemencia Ibañez.
After the workshop, the EEC members were given the “Night of Fun”, a welcome break from their usual routine at work. Activities included trivia games relative to EEC guidelines and “pass the message” to apply the communication skills training they learned from RCMB.
“Though the goal is for them to have fun, the game was still followed by a reflection,” explained Supt. Bonilla. “The participants were asked to relate the similarity of what they just performed to their roles as EEC members. The winning teams were asked to relate their best practices why they won, while the team with the least number of points were asked to tell about their weaknesses.”
In conclusion Supt. Bonilla said, “The activity was successful in the sense that it achieved the aim of strengthening the relationship of the EEC members and enhanced their commitment to their roles once they get back to their work.” – with reports from Bonilla and Ibañez
